Date: 04/24/26

Wildfires are impacting some areas of Georgia, and conditions may continue to change. Even if you are not in an affected area right now, it’s important to stay informed and be prepared. Wildfires can affect your health, your home, and your daily life. Even if you are not directly impacted, it’s normal to feel worried or stressed.

Peach State Health Plan is here to help you stay safe and take care of yourself and your family.

What to Do if Wildfires Impact Your Area

Conditions can change quickly during a wildfire.

If local officials tell you to leave your home, follow their instructions right away. If you are not in immediate danger, it still helps to be prepared.

Try to have these items ready:

  • Medicines and inhalers
  • Your Member ID card
  • Medical supplies
  • Important phone numbers
  • A phone charger

Protect Your Health from Wildfire Smoke

Wildfire smoke can travel far and affect the air you breathe.

To stay safe:

  • Stay indoors when air quality is poor.
  • Keep windows and doors closed.
  • Avoid outdoor activity when it is smoky.
  • Use your breathing medicine as directed.

Asthma and Breathing Problems

If you have asthma or other breathing problems:

  • Keep your inhaler with you at all times.
  • Follow your asthma care plan.
  • Pay attention to how you feel.

Get help right away if you have:

  • Trouble breathing.
  • Chest tightness.
  • Severe coughing.

Taking Care of Your Mental Health During Wildfires
