Date: 03/12/24
ATLANTA (February 12 ,2023) – Today, Peach State Health Plan (PSHP), a care management organization that serves the needs of Georgians through a range of health insurance solutions and a wholly owned subsidiary of Centene Corporation (NYSE: CNC), announced a new five-year partnership and $150,000 donation to the Georgia Healthy Family Alliance (GHFA) for microgrants
designed to help reduce healthcare disparities among uninsured and underinsured residents across Georgia.
The GHFA will provide microgrants that range between $1,000 and $5,000 to Georgia Academy of Family Physicians’ member- identified special projects. These projects are located across the state in both urban and rural communities of various races, ethnicities, genders, sexualities and ages.
"PSHP is thrilled to announce this new partnership and micro-grant program with the Georgia Healthy Family Alliance to address the critical healthcare needs of Georgia's diverse population,” said Centene’s Chief Growth Officer and Plan President and Chief Executive Officer of PSHP, Wade Rakes. “Through the leadership of the GHFA, we are confident that the grants and programs supported by our donation will bring a meaningful, immediate impact to the health and well-being of those in Georgia who need it most."
"This partnership and support from PSHP will enable the GHFA to reach more healthcare clinicians and communities in need,” said Executive Director of the Georgia Healthy Family Alliance Foundation, Fay Fulton. "We are grateful for their commitment to improving the health of Georgia's residents no matter their location or economic status. PSHP’s donation will enable us to expand our micro-grant program, reaching more communities in need.”
GHFA, the philanthropic arm of the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians and a networking member of the American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation, plays a pivotal role in addressing the healthcare needs of diverse communities throughout Georgia. The $150,000 donation will be distributed in microgrants, totaling $30,000 per year. The first round of microgrants was awarded in October 2023.
To date, nearly half of the first microgrant has been awarded to organizations such as the Project Breakthrough Homeless Assistance Project by Ujima Way, who supports crucial services for chronically homeless individuals in Clayton County. The funds will support clinic fees, emergency hotel vouchers, prescriptions, medical supplies and transportation services for health outreach. The Musculoskeletal Student Clinic, dedicated to providing musculoskeletal and bone care for uninsured and underinsured patients, received funding toward the purchase of a Point of Care Ultrasound System and other enhancements to care for patients experiencing bone-related issues, addressing a critical need in an area where musculoskeletal conditions are a leading cause of disability. Four organizations in need of urgent assistance, as identified through the Immediate Needs Grant Program, also received support in 2023.
