Peach State Health Plan Advances Maternal Health Across Georgia Through Community Engagement and Care Support

Date: 05/21/26

Maternal health continues to be a critical public health issue in Georgia, with outcomes influenced by access to care, early engagement, and consistent support throughout pregnancy and the postpartum period. During Maternal Health Awareness Month, Peach State Health Plan (PSHP) is highlighting the programs, partnerships, and collaboration that support pregnant and postpartum members across the state.

PSHP focuses on identifying health needs and supporting members through every stage of pregnancy, from prenatal to postpartum. The plan’s comprehensive care management approach promotes identification of high‑risk pregnancies and provides tailored support designed to reduce complications, preterm births, and low birth weight outcomes. In 2025, more than 87% of members enrolled in programs delivered babies at a normal birth weight, reflecting the importance of early and consistent care engagement.

The health plan also works closely with providers to improve prenatal and postpartum visit completion rates through quality improvement initiatives aligned with national Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) measures. Provider incentive programs encourage timely prenatal care in the first trimester and postpartum follow‑up visits within recommended timeframes, supporting continuity of care and improved outcomes for mothers.

Community partnerships further strengthen PSHP’s maternal health strategy. The plan collaborates with local organizations, health departments, and community groups to support outreach events, educational efforts, and resource connections, particularly in communities that experience higher maternal health disparities. By partnering with public health agencies and community organizations, the plan supports culturally responsive education, early prenatal access, and postpartum care coordination.

Peach State Health Plan’s maternal health initiatives reflect a long‑term commitment to improving outcomes for mothers and infants while strengthening the communities we serve.
