Stay Ready: Prepare Now for Hurricane Helene

Date: 09/25/24

As Hurricane Helene heads toward Georgia, it's expected to bring heavy rain, flooding, tornadoes, and strong winds. Peach State  Health Plan is here to help you stay safe and healthy during severe  weather.

Here are some steps you can take to get ready:

Prepare Your Medical Information Kit

A Medical Information Kit makes certain you have importantinformation at your fingertips to protect your health and the well-being of your loved ones during and after a disaster. Make sure you have this important health information:

  • Your Peach State Health Plan ID card
  • Your doctors' names and phone numbers
  • A list of allergies and health conditions
  • Medication information, including the name of the medication, dosage, times, and your doctor's name
  • A 7-day supply of important medications (ask your doctor for extra if needed)

Stay Safe During the Storm

  • Flooding: Avoid flood water if possible. If you get trapped, go to the highest level of the building. Don’t climb into a closed attic.
  • Power Outages: If you use medical equipment that needs  power, notify your power company and local emergency team. Let a friend, neighbor or loved one know your situation in case the power goes out.
  • Generator Safety: Never use a gas generator inside. Carbon monoxide is odorless and can be deadly.
