Peach State Health Plan and the Georgia Primary Care Association Award $420,000 to Expand School-Based Health Centers Statewide
Date: 10/22/25
Peach State Health Plan, a leading care management organization in Georgia and subsidiary of Centene Corporation, and the Georgia Primary Care Association (GPCA) awarded $420,000 to seven Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) to enhance School-Based Health Centers (SBHCs) across Georgia.
The funding will support projects ranging from specialized medical and dental equipment to staff expansion, strengthening access to essential care for students and families in underserved communities. These grants are part of a $1.1 million donation announced in 2023 to expand the reach and impact of SBHCs statewide.
SBHCs provide access to critical primary healthcare services within schools with a focus on prevention and early detection of treatable health conditions. Of the nearly 2,200 public schools in Georgia, 120 host health centers on their school grounds. The grants awarded by GPCA over the length of the program have helped build a robust primary care healthcare structure.
Over the past two years, ten FQHC projects have been funded through this joint investment. These projects have created and enhanced SBHC facilities, expanded patient capacity, and improved care through new equipment and services.
This year’s recipients were announced and recognized at the 2025 GPCA Annual Conference:
- Primary Care of Southwest Georgia (Blakely)
- East Georgia Healthcare Center (Swainsboro)
- Health Education Assessment & Leadership (HEAL) (Atlanta)
- Recovery Consultants of Atlanta (Atlanta)
- McKinney Community Health Center (Waycross)
- Medical Associates Plus (MAP) at Belle Terrace (Augusta)
- South Central Primary Care Center (Ocilla)
“School-Based Health Centers are an impactful way to ensure children get the care they need without barriers standing in their way,” said Clyde White, President and CEO of Peach State Health Plan. “By bringing healthcare directly into schools, we can prevent small health challenges from becoming obstacles in a child’s education and future. Peach State Health Plan is proud to partner with GPCA to support these centers and the dedicated Federally Qualified Health Centers that make them possible.”
