Dear Peach State Provider,

Peach State Health Plan (Peach State) is committed to assisting you in providing the highest quality of care to Peach State members while supporting you when the use of antibiotics may not be appropriate.

As you are aware, Upper Respiratory Infections can include conditions such as Pharyngitis, Bronchitis, Otitis Media, Sinusitis, Rhinitis, and the Common Cold.

In an effort to support the current medical concerns related to antibiotic resistance, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has developed a useful guide regarding recommendations for antibiotic use for pediatric treatment of Upper Respiratory Infections. This guide also includes helpful suggestions to use when parents demand antibiotics. Attached is a copy of the CDC/AAP guide for your reference.

Thank you for the quality of care and service that you provide our Peach State members. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any question you may have at 678-556-2300 extension 62438.

Professionally yours,

Dean Greeson, MD

Now that spring is here, it’s a good time to get back in shape. Luckily, you don’t have to join a gym or train hard to see results. All you need is to walk every day.

Walking is great exercise. Everyone in your family can do it. In fact, walking together is a fun family activity. It’s simple. It doesn’t cost anything except a pair of good walking shoes or sneakers. You can do it almost any time of the day or evening. In bad weather, you can go to a mall and walk there. And all you need is 30 minutes a day. That will make a big difference in your health.

It’s smart to talk to your doctor before starting any new exercises. Once the doctor gives the OK, make a commitment. Walk every day. Get your kids walking too. Exercise is one habit you want them to keep their whole lives.
